ABOUT THIS STORY:

There was a time when I was at my local Target store just about every day. You know how it is: the kids were in diapers, seemed like we were always running out of one-of-everything in the infant section. So, one day, just before the holidays in 2011 when I was making my usual run for baby goods, my Target store went and totally reconfigured the check-out line. It was actually a big deal and altered an essential aspect of the shopping experience there. The purpose of this strange new check-out landscape seemed mysterious, so random. I knew there was a story to tell, so, I told it.
