Broadband—also known as high-speed Internet—is widely seen as the 21st-century equivalent to life-changing technological breakthroughs of the previous century, like electricity, the railroad, or the interstate. Indeed, broadband is no longer considered a luxury, but is today a core element of a city’s infrastructure, especially if a city wants to attract businesses and help its residents stay connected to each other and to the global marketplace. During the 2015 legislative session, the League of Minnesota Cities (LMC) will continue to seek changes that will help cities expand or bring broadband to their communities.
